History
Chongli or Zhurong is a god of fire and warfare, who rides a giant tiger into battle. He has a son, Gong Gong, a sea monster and troublemaker.
Gong Gong once plotted to take the throne of heaven from Shangdi, and Chongli his father donned his armor and mounted his war tiger to stop him. He and Gong Gong dueled for many days in the heavens, and finally Chongli smote his son down to Earth. Furious at his loss, Gong Gong bashed his head against the pillars which held the earth in place, and Nü Wa had to fix the world with the help of the great turtle Ao. Chongli, victorious, ascended back to heaven as the god of fire and Lord of the South.
Myth Unit
Vermilion Bird: Causes firestorms.
The Vermilion bird is a mythological creature which represents fire, summer, and sometimes goes by the name of Vermilion bird of the South. With its multi-coloured plumage perpetually coated in flames, the Vermilion bird’s dominant colour is that of fire, much like its Egyptian counterpart Phoenix. Considered a bird of elegance, it is known to sing and break into dance at will, and can even make small seeds grow into giant trees. At night, however, the elegant creature shows its far fiercer side as it dines only after sundown and feasts on snakes and serpents coated in cinnamon.
Chongli isn’t very picky, he just wants to watch the world burn…
God Power
Inferno: Chongli unleashes his fiery wrath on the enemy by casting the Inferno God Power. This Mythic Age God Power will burn down enemy buildings and scorch any units located inside its radius. The Inferno is not very selective once unleashed, so look out for allied units in the targeted area.
Unique Technologies
- Heavenly Fire: Chongli removes the food and wood costs of your Armory technologies.
- Stirrup: Chongli increases the hitpoints of all your Cavalry units.
- Ancient Destroyer: Chongli increases the movement speed of your Ships.

Well, there go my hopes of having a Fu Dog unit. :- Vermillion Birds are cool too, but I’m kinda dissapointed that there’s still only one MU per god…

Well, it says ‘removes’ here, not ‘reduces’… That’s a different matter.
Hephaestus reduces the cost by 75%. If this takes away one of the resources then it only reduces it by 50%. So it will be less OP than Heph (though Heph is so powerful that this could still be pretty massive). I would also say that the gold is the more significant resource anyway so this is essentially less than 50% reduction. Otoh, maybe gold will be plentiful with use of pixiu
I don’t think they have shown that Chariot from the screenshot before. I also expected Chongli to be the god with the White Tiger. But the Vermilion Bird is cool too, of course. I always enjoy spamming flying units. That God Power looks fun too.
Maybe we’ll get lucky and they’re only revealing one MU per god or something, and they decided to feature the Vermillion Bird instead of the Tiger since we basically already know what it does. Or maybe I’m just in denial.

I’m guessing the chariots will be the immortals. I expect they’ll be China’s archer counter (they don’t have one at present).
Well there goes the flying dragon myth unit.. But i think dragon king’s god power will be to summon a giant flying dragon and his myth unit will be a land dragon? Heck let him have two myth units so there would be a naval dragon also.. turtle dragon may be?
In my opinion, the dragon will be the Chinese Titan, thus creating a connection with the expansion name ‘Tale of the Dragon’. It would be more meaningful than this being related to a myth unit, but there may also be some dragon-like myth unit anyway.

Earth dragon (and tsunami) are remaining God powers. Azure dragon will be a myth unit. I guess white tiger is the other mu, unless there is a multiple.
Tsunami makes sense but couldbe challenging.. And if they will release a land myrh unit as a god power they better make it durable…
Since the known Mythic Age units (White Tiger, Azure Dragon and Vermilion Bird) are all not coincedentially part of the Four Symbols, we could get the Black Tortoise/Turtle as well, either as a secondary martime unit or perhaps as a Titan.
It’s a little odd seeing different proposals for what will be their titan. So far all titans have operated in the same way and only differed cosmetically. That would imply that if the turtle was the titan it would need to move at the same speed and over the same terrain as other titans. Which would be rather odd. I guess they could change it up, but that seems unlikely.
Having it as a maritime unit seems likely – though I hope it will be different enough from the Egyptian turtles.
I think Xi Wangmu will have the white tiger and Ao Kuang will have the azure drake.

Sorry, in Chinese Pinyin, the name of this god should be pronounced as zhong li, not chong li. Because in Chinese, 重 has two pronounciation and at this place, it should be zhong. I sincerely want you to correct this mistake.

You should look it up in chinese websites, google or wikipedia is not correct. I believe that is not all developers fault but that should be corrected.
Is Dilong a summonable god power or justa temporary one?
I know a lot of people like to call out Huangdi’s artwork, but of all the artwork thus far, this is the one that bugs me the most. There’s something off about the physical positioning of the god compared to the rest – rather the focus being on the head or the torso-head combination, Chongli’s head is positioned high that the torso dominates the picture, not helped by the gigantic pauldrons and the big circles on the chest proper. I think that maybe it comes with the implication that this guy is really strong around the torso, but that’s just my reasoning.
To be honest, it’s one of my favourites. It’s a bit more zoomed out than the others, which I think allows it to show the imposing body as well. I think it makes him more badass.
