Age of Mythology: Tale of the Dragon

The first expansion to the legendary RTS in over a decade brings tons of new content, including a new civilization, a fully voice-acted campaign (English), new maps, and 12 new gods drawn from the robust Chinese pantheon! Hunt for dragons in the faraway mystical lands of China, fight demons and command good spirits on your side. Or would you rather command the demons? Fight for the grace of the Three Sovereigns, separate Yin from Yang and banish your enemies to the tenth layer of Hell.

A new Civilization enters the game… The Chinese!

  • Master Tacticians: Between their War Academy tech, morale-boosting generals, and units with unexpected counters, the Chinese have no problem dominating the battlefield!
  • Wololo arrives in Age of Mythology! The beloved monk from Age of Empires II finally gets its Age of Mythology counterpart in the monk hero unit, which can convert enemy units and heal friendly ones.
  • New Campaign (fully voice-acted in English): With Yin and Yang shattered and China in chaos, General Jiao-Long must find a way to restore Yin and Yang and bring peace to the empire.

3 Major Gods—The Three Sovereigns

  • Fu Xi, The Heavenly Sovereign: The inventor of the first writing system, Fu Xi speeds construction efforts in return for favor.
  • Nü Wa, The Earthly Sovereign: Co-creator of humanity and sister of Fu Xi, Nü Wa brings unparalleled prosperity by boosting villagers and the economy.
  • Shennong, The Human Sovereign: The Emperor of the Five Grains is credited with many agricultural inventions, and rains death with mighty siege weapons if his monks fail to convert the foe.

Due to the rumbling fights of the Titans in the Western world, Yin and Yang are shattered once again. This creates an unseen chaos in the otherwise peaceful China, which is thriving under the rule of Emperor Yao. As a General in the Emperor’s army, Jiao-Long must find a way to restore Yin and Yang and return peace to the empire.

The campaign is fully voice acted in English.

12 new god powers to unleash your wrath onto your opponents.

  • Unleash a devastating Tsunami or Inferno on your enemy’s cities.
  • Destroy enemy units with a sudden Geyser or Barrage of arrows.
  • Summon Dilong the Earth Dragon to break through the earth’s crust.

No Mythical game without these creatures to wreak havoc on your human soldiers.

  • Jiangshi – Undead unit that drains life from enemy soldiers.
  • War Salamander – A new amphibious unit that can take the fight to enemies wherever they are.
  • Terracotta Warrior – Soldiers that expel lethal dust upon death, destroying nearby enemies.
  • Azure Dragon – Any match can be improved with the addition of a fire-breathing dragon.

  • Basin
  • Deep Jungle
  • Old Atlantis
  • Open Fields
  • Regicide
  • Silk Road
  • Yellow River

Please do the Japanese gods and civilization with samurai after this. It looks so amazing!

Hmm, I feel since Japan and China share a lot of lore, and with their civilizations being so similar in antiquity, they’d play too similarly to warrant being included, sadly. Maybe one day, like how the Atlanteans are similar in terms of identity to the Greeks.

I’d agree there. Similar to how I feel about adding Romans*. A suitable civ could certainly be made, but there are other, more diverse ones that should be added first (Sumerians, Celts, Indians, Olmecs, something in central Africa, something in South Pacific, time and location aren’t as much an issue as in AoE2). Do the more similar ones later if possible. So like, 7 more expansions….

*Japan isn’t as close to Chinese as Romans are to Greeks/Atlanteans, but it’s on the same continuum.

How exactly are they in the same continuum? They certainly share similar mythical creatures like the dragon but even they have their differences(i.e. # of claws) in these two cultures. I’m pretty sure they have their own pantheon of gods and goddess.

I would prefer a mesoamerican ( aztec myhtology for example) theme for the next expansion Japs have a very similar culture and mythology to those of the chinese . so i think they should wait a bit more

Actually they already did it with AOE 3 the Asian dynasties. There they have samurai, ninjas, monks, Ashigaru musketeers, Daimyos etc,

Please let Dilong be a summonable.. Not smt. Like earthquake god power..

Soooo random queastion (doubtful) will there be unique cheat codes?

Maybe, here we will see a panda 😉

The Love-Letter

OMG yes please. I need me some company for my Flying Purple Hippos and Lazar Bears.

I want one that gives the Chinese God Powers like ZENOS PARADOX :v

Wouter Snauwaert

Dang, this looks promising after all 😀

Bill S

Looks really interesting, I can’t wait! Please advertise this game more, your work deserves more publicity and many people will be interested in playing a new AoM expansion!

Frankly Man

They may even be players who will look into EE who once played the original release because of new content. That’s why many finally revisited AoE II HD.

Bill S

Yeah definitely. A whole new civilization added+new campaign is a great amount of content and EE has become a pretty decent platform for multiplayer. I just feel like this game hasn’t been advertised as well as it should be, but there is still time for that !

Frankly Man

I’ve only seen a couple of the major sites mention it today.

Bill S

Well, at least that’s something ! Let’s hope more sites do that as well..

I think the most important question: What are they going to have pulling their trade carts? We’ve had donkeys, camels, llamas and oxen. Surely it won’t be something as bland as a horse. So, panda cart?

joachim cappaert

dragon carvan

Yak caravan. Makes sense, if a little similar to oxen (read: subclass of oxen).

It’s an oxen that’s dipped into a prestige class 🙂

It’s the 28th here now. Where’s my dragons!?! ;P

joachim cappaert

it’s still 27 with me. also can’t wait tho

Frankly Man

Overall I am actually really liking the look of this expansion. There is so much more we want to know but to be honest, at this point I’d rather be surprised when I play it for myself!
