Age of Mythology Franchise
Age of Mythology is the fantastical spin-off of Age of Empires, after nearly 25 years, it remains a beloved part of the franchise. So much it has attracted its own audience and fanbase.
Our journey working on Age of Mythology began back in 2014, when we were brought on board to co-develop the “Extended Edition” Steam port alongside other partners for Microsoft Studios. We co-developed an expansion as well, before Microsoft put the franchise on a little pause to shift the focus of our growing team entirely on Age of Empires.

RETELLING STORIES OF MYTH AND MAGIC
After the success of the “Definitive Edition” treatment across the Age of Empires franchise, Microsoft decided it was time to retell the story of Arkantos and bring it back to the masses.
Forgotten Empires was contracted alongside various other partners to co-develop Age of Mythology: Retold, with each team playing to their strenghts, owning the areas they excel most in.
Our team would focus on content, gameplay, AI, design, level design, narrative content, visuals and general game vision.
CO-DEVELOPMENT IS NO MYTH
Co-developing seems quite a daunting task, especially with many studios in the mix. However, after over a decade cooperating with other studios, we wouldn’t have it any other way.
Partners can bring decades of experience to your game in their own areas of expertise, and with the right guidance, help you propel your game to new heights.
Huge thank you to everyone who has and continue to work diligently on bringing the best Age of Mythology to the world, including everyone at World’s Edge studio and our awesome partners at Forgotten Empires, Tantalus Media, Virtuos and many others
Age of Mythology: Retold was released to critical acclaim in 2024, and eventually found its way to multiple platforms, including Steam, MS Store, Xbox & PlayStation 5.
“World’s Edge and Forgotten Empires have done it again with this remaster. After the quality of the Age of Empires remasters, it should come as no surprise – but the balance of old features and new twists is marvellous. Together, they make Age of Mythology: Retold a lovely, worthy remaster perfect for all players – experienced, nostalgic, or otherwise.”
After the successfull release, the team at Forgotten Empires kept development going, providing ample post-launch support to the game, including the development of expansions which were released in the wake of the critically acclaimed remaster.
