It has been 2 weeks this time, let’s see what happened.
Overall
Fair and square, not a lot happened sadly. The sole reason for this is that I have a full time job, and when things are busy there, it’s tough to come home and start another full time job. Sometimes a break is suitable. However, we’re still focusing to get the whole project ready within a reasonable amount of time.
The biggest achievement probably comes from you guys this week, as we’ve gotten to 10000 fans on our Facebook page.
I never expected we would reach that insane number, but we did, thank you guys! Up to our next goal, beating Age of Empires Online? 😉
Balance & Small features
Last week we asked for ideas for Unique Techs for some of the old civs. Many interesting ideas were launched, so let’s see what the current list is:
- Byzantines UT: Greek Fire (Fire Ship Range +1)
- Britons UT: Warwolf (Trebuchets do blast damage)
- Chinese UT: Great Wall (Walls +50% HP)
- Teutons UT: Ironclad (Siege +5 melee armor)
- Aztecs UT: Atlatl (Skirmishers +1 attack/+1 range)
- Korean UT: Panokseon (Turtle Boats +15% speed)
- Vikings UT: Chieftains (Berserks +3 attack vs Cavalry)
- Turks UT: Sipahi (Cavalry Archers +20 HP)
- Japanese UT: Yasama (Towers shoot +5 arrows)
- Mongol UT: Falconry (Mounted units +5 LOS)
- Persian UT: Persepolis (Trade carts +5/+5 armor)
- Spanish UT: Inquisition (Monks convert +20% faster)
- Franks UT: Chivalry (Stables +50% faster)
- Saracen UT: Madrasah (Monks that are killed return 33% of their cost)
- Huns UT: Marauders (Enables Tarkans in the stable)
- Mayans UT: Tlatoani (Archers, Crossbowmen, Arbalests +3 attack vs buildings)
- Celtic UT: Stronghold (Castles and towers fire +20% faster)
As you can see, some of these techs (Persians, Mongols and maybe Saracens, Mayans and Celts) are up for improvement. The ideal Castle Age unique technology is usable in the Castle Age in a viable tactic. Remember that a castle must be built to acquire them as well! (British UT will change place with Yeomen, so the treb-tech comes in Imp where it belongs).
Scenarios
We’re seeing steady improvement on some of the campaigns. Virtual cities are rising in the mountainous landscapes of the Italian peninsula.
See you next week, hopefully with more progress to report!
Spanish UT: Epidemics: Enemies villagers minus 10 Hp. All enemies units (except siege and naval units) minus 10% HP.
Well, historically, smallpox killed more native Americans than the conquistadores did.
i think this could be a good tech, but it should only affect vills
then again, inquisition is already a good tech, and it is historically significant
Inquisition is good but it has several drawbacks: a) Spanish has no economy bonus and yet their strength lie in their conquistadores at the castle age. A Spanish almost always have to built a castle which is very expensive. b) A monastery must be built in addition to the castle to take advantage of the UT. The UT affects monks which cost 100 gold and divert resources from building conquistadores or getting imperial. c) Monk needs research like redemption, sanctity to really be effective. No point building a few monks just to convert a few knights when a few more… Read more »
Actually the Spanish have 2 bonuses that gives you extra gold. The first bonus is that blacksmiths upgrades cost no gold, the second is the best team bonus in the game, that gives you an extra 33% more gold from trade income.
Yeah, they already have 2 great economy bonuses, how can you say it’s your fav civ if you didn’t notice that :S
A conquistador rush? no, I don’t like rushes. What if they’re playing in Regicide Mode? They already have a castle.
I’d not convert knights, I prefer to convert my enemies UUs.
i think it is really weird how (if i may quote someone from aoc box) “the spanish get a gunpowder unit on a horse, and they need a technology to get them off that horse”
Yep, those conquistadors are lost in time. They belong to renaissance.
Having a hand cannoneer on a horse, that’s how they can unfairly take down any enemy in MIddle Age battles, Op.
At least Conquistadors can’t be massed easily because they train very slowly and they are really expensive for a ranged unit (60 f, 70 g) thats 5 less gold than knights, plus the cost to build castles, another drawback. Thats why a person playing the spanish would prefer using heavy calvary over them. I have never seen someone win a multiplayer match with a Conquistador rush.
if you are got off guard, a conquistador rush is seriously devastating
but if you have a decent military, then you are ok
Conquistadors are good for raiding economies and harrassing the enemy but they are more of a support unit, it’s best to use them with paladins or champions, especially with monks(since in AoFE the spanish now get a new UT that increases conversion rate)
Got some other ideas, guess most of the already named. 1. give gunpowder to the britains, its totally inacurrate, that they havnt got a piece of that cake 2. same with the chinese, give them their gunpowder 3. byzantines and the españoles really really need the buildingoptics of the italians 4. first is to give the huns houses back, and the second is to convert the huns and mongols houses to tents, would fit those nomads way way better 5. and the last point in my mind is, if this is possible at all, to add more colours like brown,… Read more »
colours for the played nation in a match of course, like those 8 already existing*
you cant ditch the huns no house thing! it is the coolest bonus in the game, and it is also historically acurate, many of the bonuses have nothing to do with anything
if u change their houses to yurts, you would need to change a lot of other things to be historically accurate
also cysion has said he cant add colors, only replace them, grey might get replaced with black, which i think would not only be awesome, but i would improve the games playability (grey is the same as cyan and it blends in on the mini map)
when i said cyan i meant gaia, sorry for the confusion
just a suggestion with the mongols/huns thing, guess it just couldnt be that hard since the alternative houses are already in the game as many tentskins and for the mongolcampaign, theyre used very often as well, and Im sorry to hear that you cant add colours, but nevermind, what about the other things, hu?
With a black player on the mini-map, it will be too hard to distinguish units and buildings from unexplored territory(especially if they are close together), since it is the same color. Brown would a more suitable replacement as long as it is a different tint of the color different than the cliffs on the mini-map. Its was the color for player 4(I think) for Age of Empires 1. While gaia remains gray to tell the difference between gaia and player 7 especially when collecting sheep or when claiming gaia units in scenario editor.
They already have changed the player 7 gray for black on the mini-map, I thought the outfit color would be changed into black too, but only on the mini-map.
If you mean on userpatch, yeah your right. But its not black it’s more of a darker tint of gray, it changed so you can tell the difference between gaia animals and the snowy terrain from the player 7 gray color on the mini-map. But on scenario editor or when your player 7 converting sheep in game, however, its impossible to tell the which is gaia and player 7 since their outfit color is the same. So a brown color for player 7 would be a solution to that problem.
Even if we consider it’s darker gray, I actually think it was completely nonsense.
You can clearly tell the difference between gaia and player 7, unless you’re myopic. They have different tones.
i see what you mean about the unkown territory, but i think that would be better than grey
brown would be good, but it looks to simillar to the games orange
Not really, go play a game on Age of Empires 1 or Rise of Rome with an orange player and a brown player. I can clearly distinguish between both colors on the mini-map and thier outfit color when I play.
This.
Or having black as new colour would be nice cool, if you imagine “black knights” on the battlefield, lul.
Even though though I don’t agree with the change of a black color, Black Paladins would be epic, an awesome unit with an awesome color, a double whammy when a player’s town is being raided by them.
Yeah, black paladins, black huskarls and black teutonic knights, that’d be pretty cool ^^
i do think that could be a good thing changing the bys and spanish buildings to italian, i think it woulod be kind of weird having the building set for 1 civ
byz are more an amalgation of eastern ways and roman ways i think. And why the Spanish?
Eastern romans didnt have building sets like the Persians or Arabians, its a greek/italian based culture.
There have been even greek cities with this kinda optics in the persian, asia minor or egyptian locations, so why the hell the mediterranean Byzantines need to look like the Persians or new coming Indians? Or even like Saracens? No way.
And the Spanish are totally a mediterranean civilisation, even the southern french regions should be look like this in a “AoE: world” game, dont get it why the spanish have the cold grey british building style.
they are not going to react on those questions 😛 😛 😛 😛
a question that i hope someone answers
will the campaigns be interesting and fun to play and will they have cut scenes at the beginning and end of each scenario
It’s our goal to design some top quality campaigns, enjoyable for all players. The concept will be rather similar to AoC, but we’ll introduce some more variety into the gameplay besides the straight “Build and Destroy” campaigns from the original franchise.
In addition we’ll be bringing the campaign side of AoC to a whole new level, but that’s still a suprise to come. It’s the part which I am personally most excited about.
Could we see something to make the Goths infantry stronger? And maybe remove the Cavalier upgrade, Gothic infantry could be the only thing the player needs to rely on. You could probably put +2 pierce armor/ +2 normal armor for Huskarls as an UT. Or maybe remove the Imperial UT and make it that all infantry get a +2 attack bonus. I just want something that’ll change the Gothic strategy a little, from spamming Huskarls to having an army consisting of Huskarls, Champions, and Halberdiers.
Interesting idia!
What if one civ can have some feature for vills? What if vills of one civ can use range arrow atack vs all units, not only deers and boars?
This idea is already discussed and answered at http://www.aoczone.net/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=68879&start=4150#p215829
Short version: it requires hardcoding, which we are unable to do. In addition, it would rather disrupt than enhance gameplay.
hi, see so many suggestion. one more, can you add a castle that can fire cannon ball like the bombard tower or shooting bullet when the hand cannoners garrison in side the caste. is that possible ? or just add it in scenario.
Hi,
I don’t find any thing to download apart from this : http://www.xomicron.com/software/userpatch/
And after downloading it, there were’nt any other civilisations….
Is it because it’s not ready yet ?
Thank u,
Tresjeune
Support -> FAQ ->
When will it be released?
December 2012.
Oh, sorry…
Thank u very much !
Congratulations, it’s a great project !
I have a question. in AOC you could not give in the scenario edor garland wars, or something to another faction, like the britons, is it possible to do it in AOFE?
This applies to all techs a civ cannot research, like you can’t give bracer to the teutons, for example. That is very sad, maybe the userpatch guys can change that in the future.
I really like to say someting about the new abilities of the existing civ’s All the new tech looks really nice and a nice improvment on the special abilities of a civ. however de persians civ with the +5 armor looks to me a little off. this because this is only a real improvment when you play in teams, (ofc i’m aware you can “raid” death enemy’s with trading but stil) every other improvement is based on the milatary, and defense. so what would be an good alternative to the trade cart. i would say. persians are a calvary civ.… Read more »
I agree with a UT for Persians that makes their Knights (but also all their cavalry) cheaper, because the majority of their army will consist of cavalry units. So I was thinking how about a UT that decreases the gold cost of all mounted units (Knights, Camels, Cavalry Archers and WE’s) by 20%, and call it Median Armor, Thoroughbred or something else? I’m fine with Persians lacking a Fortified Wall though because they’re very offense oriented, but I still think they seriously need Bracer for their CA’s and Navy.
Hello! I am a big fan of the age of empire.
How about Celtic UT: Stronghold (Siege units fire +20% faster)? Because Celtic is good at seige units.
Thing is, their Siege already fires 20% faster. Any faster and they’ll have OP Heavy Scorpions and Siege Onagers.
