The campaigns of the original Age of Kings and it’s expansion, The Conquerors, were probably the most enjoyed features of the game, no matter what expertise the player had. Thus when designing a new expansion, one cannot neglect this side of the game – and we sure as hell didn’t! So, let me take you into our magical world of new exciting stories to be played in Age of Forgotten Empires:
1. Alaric I
The trauma of the Hun invasion in the 4th century has shaped this fearsome warrior king of the Goths: fleeing his invaded homeland as a child, Alaric spent the rest of his life searching for a new place to settle. Whether he invaded the Roman Empire or fought hard battles for it, Alaric only asked for a home. Sadly, the Roman Empire was a place of intrigue, for the rule of the emperor was waning and all sorts of men played a dangerous game of treachery and conspiracy in search of power. Can the beloved king secure a new homeland for his people in this cruel empire? Enter a story of betrayal, despair and blood.
2. Francesco Sforza
I present to you the wondrous life of Francesco Sforza. After witnessing his father’s death, the young captain did not hesitate to take over command of the mercenary army. Always hungry for glory and wealth, Sforza wanders 15th century Italy, offering his services to the highest bidder. Plenty of opportunities present themselves on the way, for the Italians are continuously at war: power struggles in the southern kingdom of Naples, a clash between the northern city-states of Venice, Milan and Florence, and a weak papacy in the midst of all. Will you pick the right fights or make the wrong enemy? Take the fate of the young mercenary captain in your hands. Enter a story of opportunism, ambition and never-ending battles.
Hostis erat Venetus, nec Florentinus amicus. Hostis et Alphonsus, Insuber hostis erat. Nemo tuas Italus partis, Francisce, fovebat, non Italis quisquis adiacet ullus agris. Ipse tamen nudo statuens tentoria campo, milite cum parvo solus eras metui. Inde Briantinis Venetorum exercitus errans collibus haud audet te proprius petere. Insuber hinc trepidas acuit perterritus iras ipse quidem frustra, cui deus hostis adest. Francesco Filelfo (1398â1481), Renaissance scholar | The Venetian nor the Florentine was your friend. Even Alfonso and the Milanese were enemies too. No Italian, Francesco, took your part, nor anyone in the lands nearby. Still, though you camped in a bare field with few soldiers, you caused great fear. The Venetians, wandering in the Briantine hills, scarcely dared to approach you close. The fearful Milanese himself sharpened his wrath in vain. For god, his enemy, was at hand. Loosely translated, based on the literal one from: FILELFO, Francesco (transl. and ed. Diana Robin), Odes [1455], Cambridge, Harvard University Press, 2009, 116-119. |
Future
By now you are without doubt overly excited, but there is even more to reveal! Looking beyond the December launch, we’re planning to bring out regular content patches to expand our ever magical world of AoFE. These updates will be themed about one civilization, but like this Italian themed release, we won’t limit the campaigns to one perspective. Thus the AoFE team will continue to satisfy your appetite for interesting stories and fun gameplay even after launch!
In this article I have introduced the exciting stories to be played in AoFE, but for a sneak peek about the stunning gameplay created by our most competent designers, I would like to invite you to our live show later this weekend (or watch the recap if you tuned in too late). If you want to us tell how excited you are, what you think about the new campaigns, or just want to say hi, you can always leave a comment.

posible scenarios for an Atahualpa Campaign:
1.- The reclaim of Guayaquil tribute (a young Atahualpa in charge of the inca army goes to submit the punaneĂąans I suggest use other incas or aztecs to represent them)
2.- The death of Huayna Capac ( lead the putsch against Huascar at the entronization)
3.-Battle of Quepaipa
4.-Siege of Tomepampa
5.-The capture of Huascar
6.- The spanish arrival
7.- The room of gold
8.- The last resistance of Quito.
Is it possible to have an AI like âThe Hordeâ and raise the unit cap to 1000 like in the unofficial user patch?
Greets
I saw the campain preview & showcase last week and was really impressed by the beautiful design of the first scenario in the Italan campain. It is admirable how much time the campain team wants to spent on this. Yet I was surprised about some things in the gameplay part of that scenario because I thought it was not as well done as the design was. I certainly don’t want to criticize, but just do some suggestions. In that scenario, there are many units you must keep alive. Non only Francesco Sforza, but also the Trade Cart and the Monk.… Read more »
I’m nto from the team, but sicne I know the answer for some questions, I’ll simply answer. “In that scenario, there are many units you must keep alive. Non only Francesco Sforza, but also the Trade Cart and the Monk.” It’s because you need to drive the trade cart to one camp and the monk to another, so, If you lose them, you wouldn’t be able to do it đ “I also saw that the creator putted some units in the corner to make sure players donât resign” Well, that was just a test scenario, and I think he did… Read more »
”Thatâs just custom AIs. Just Download AIs in AoKH or in AoCZone and put them in the AI folder inside of your AoK installation.” Thank you! That’ll help. ”Itâs because you need to drive the trade cart to one camp and the monk to another, so, If you lose them, you wouldnât be able to do it.” I know. That’s why I suggest to do something different (for example, you can also use Francesco Sforza for collecting the hay and there are two possibilities to get a monk). ”Well, that was just a test scenario, and I think he did… Read more »
“you can also use Francesco Sforza for collecting the hay and there are two possibilities to get a monk” That’s a good ideia indeed! “That sentence was an introduction to the rest of the paragraph and it was not part of my suggestions, but just about a funny method I found.” Yeah, I know, but, I don’t want to ruin your hapiness, but many scenario designers already use this trick, but, it was still useful to mention it, I’m sure that there are many people and designers which doesn’t know it(but AoFE designers seem to already know it, since it… Read more »
Thank you for not wanting to ruin my happiness. đ
”But AoFE designers seem to already know it, since it seems to be used in Sforzaâs campaignâŚ.”
I, too, don’t want to ruin your happiness, but, then I don’t understand how the walls in the bottom corner of the map are revealed.
If you men the Sforza’s campaign, I really didn’t notice it xD, and then I hope they use your trick then!. But, if it was in the testing scenario, well, they did that to save time.
And also, thanks for not wanting to ruin my hapiness, actually, you didn’t ruin it lol.
Hey super excited for this new release!! Quick question tho… will this be easy to install? im not a very “techy” guy. If not a tutorial would be extremely helpful!
Thanks!
Will there be a version released that doesn’t have swearing? My 10 year old brother is a huge fan of aoeii.
Can anyone please tell me where exactly do you download Forgotten Empires once it is released? I’m really excited to get it but I’m not sure which site it’s gonna be distributed from
I’d bet it is going to be distributed via this site (maybe not direct download, but torrent to avoid traffic limits).
will the page that appears when we click on a scenario show a cut scene like in aok and aoc and will you make it so when you click on the campaigns on the main menu in the final version will the campaigns and scenarios be on a map like in aok and aoc i hope someone replys and will there be that sound when an objective changes like in aok and aoc? will you add more campaigns (not scenarios) in updates I mean you will not add every campaign soon? good luck on making the campaigns and lets hope… Read more »
