Hey everyone!
It’s been a while, but it’s time to break the silence! Microsoft has just announced continued support for Age of Empires II. Including a new expansion pack later this year, featuring new civs, campaigns, maps, units, techs, etc… And we’re happy to help them develop that new expansion with the help of SkyBox Labs. 😀
We’ll release more information on the new content as it’s being developed, so stay tuned! Although we can already share a first sneaky screenshot.
Additionally, a new patch has been released, it’s a rather small patch, but hopefully one with a big impact on performance. Especially in long Black Forest games you should see some good improvements.

Long live Age of Empires! 😀
I think we’re all forgetting the biggest revelation from this announcement: there are new birds!? being added to the game!!!
Hopefully there will also be new land beasts such as lions, leopards and hyenas to replace the wolves and bears, rhinos, buffalos and wild elephants to replaces the boars and antelopes and zebras to replace the deers. Maybe goats and zebus to replace sheeps and cows. It would be weird to see Africa roamed by european animals.
Maybe also crocs and hippos in the water, inclined to attack fishermen and fishing ships.
the original animals make sense when you think about it – since all the aok civs were Eurasian, they needed to pick animals that could be found anywhere on the continents – so sheep, deer, boars and wolves made sense. Aoc added jaguars, turkeys, and javelina – aof added all sorts of animals – I’d be surprised if this next expansion didnt follow suit
It sure makes sense.
By the way, falcons are already not the only birds in the game, parrots also exist.
aof also added vultures i think
It would be cool if Byzantines got a new tech or civ bonus based on their Theme Army system
